Four Generations of Superior Quality, Craftsmanship and Service
When it comes to home and business remodeling and building there is no greater tradition in the Heart of the Valley then Welhouse Construction Services, LLC. Since the early 1900’s, and four generations later, Welhouse Construction Services, LLC continues to provide the Northeast Wisconsin with superior quality, craftsmanship and impeccable service.
Brothers, Joseph and Anthony Welhouse, started a construction business in the early 1900’s because there was a great need in the community for new barns. Joe and Tony used hand tools along with horses and tackle to erect barns all over the Valley. At that time barns were built from lumber sawed from the timber on the farm. The construction style was timber framed, also known as post and beam, forming very strong structures to withstand storms and heavy loads of animal feed. The Welhouse tradition of superior quality and craftsmanship began.
Joe worked the business until his son Jerome joined him in 1932. Jerome left high school at the age of 17 due to the need to earn money for the family. Their quality woodworking quickly became recognized in the community and requests evolved from barns to home building and renovation. With the new demand Jerome’s brothers, Harold, James and Eugene, followed into the family business. Several years later Jerome and his wife Margaret purchased the business from his brothers and in 1960 officially named the company Jerome Welhouse Construction, Inc. That same year Jerome’s eldest son, David, graduated from high school and entered into the family business full time. Margaret not only raised six children, but also assisted with the administration of the business making it a full family affair.
Jerome and David further developed a tradition of hand craftsmanship creating custom woodworking from cabinets to built-ins, doors and finished trim work. Because the family had a strong framing history which evolved to finish carpentry work, they began building what is known today as “spec homes” back in the 1960’s. As time evolved they continued to build homes when requested, but began focusing the company on renovation and remodeling of homes and businesses.
In 1980 David bought into Jerome Welhouse Construction, Inc. and the business was renamed Jerome Welhouse & Son Construction Company, LLC. In 1983, Jerome left the construction sites to focus on estimating and scheduling while David led the onsite projects. Jerome worked in this capacity until 1998 when he fully retired and David assumed full ownership of the family business. The third generation began and Jerome served as technical advisor and historian to the business. Office administration moved from Jerome and Margaret to David and his wife Kathleen. David advanced the business becoming a member the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Fox Valley Chapter in 1993. That same year David became a Certified Remodeler (CR) through the association and maintains his certification today. The business was officially organized as a Domestic Limited Liability Company in 1995.
David’s sons, Mark and Paul, worked the family construction business through high school. Mark continued on full time while Paul worked the business summers as he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering with a Mechanical Engineering Minor at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). After graduation Paul left the construction field entirely following a professional engineering career. During this time the family’s construction company was thriving and growing in the Fox Valley. At this point there was no one in line to continue the tradition of superior quality, craftsmanship and service the family had built remodeling and constructing homes and businesses for over 95 years. In 2001 Paul left corporate America and rejoined the family business. After three years of hands on experience, Paul bought into the business in 2003. The company was renamed to Welhouse Construction Services, LLC in 2005 as it moved into its fourth generation.
In 2007, Paul received his Certified Remodeler designation from NARI making Welhouse Construction Services, LLC the only remodeling firm in the Fox Valley with two Certified Remodelers on staff. In 2008, Paul and his wife Diane took full ownership of the business. Dave is still very involved assisting Paul with estimating, scheduling and onsite construction management. Diane left her career in corporate America in Milwaukee and took over the administration from Kathy as well as assisting Paul with customer service, project design and scheduling, marketing and community involvement.
In 2009, Paul became a Green Certified Professional (GCP) through NARI applying green or sustainable principles to building or remodeling projects. In 2013, Paul became a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) through the National Home Builders Association (NAHB) and in 2014 a Universal Design Certified Professional (UDCP) through NARI both applying ADA, accessible or universal design principles to building or remodeling projects. In, 2014 Diane Welhouse completed her Interior Design degree and is now an Interior Designer. Welhouse Construction Services, LLC is also certified under Chapter HFS 163, Wisconsin Administrative Code as a Lead-Safe Company with Paul having Lead Safe certification.
Today, Welhouse Construction Services, LLC is a full design, remodel and build firm. They are experts in all phases of building and remodeling and guarantee superior quality, craftsmanship and exceptional service in all their offerings. Their mission is to be “Always On The Level” in all that they do on a daily basis.
